RAYON TWO

Developed in: IAAC
Master Thesis

An affecting example of the post industrial remains is the prefabricated mass housing. What is the value of this architecture? Why we would preserve it? Soviet microdistricts became unsustainable in terms of urbanism. However, i believe the space and structures of these districts have the potential to become a good platform for creating sustainable communities. Preserving the configuration of the districts where social activity is supported by the master plan, providing more individual freedom and eliminating the existing problems using architectural tools, we could turn these places into attractive ones. Using the socialist vision of community and the modern ideals of diversity in facilities and actions "Rayon Two" aims to create better ecology and safety, centres and businesses in each neighbourhood and change the "sleeping districts" into communities that will host a new "green" regime moving towards a sustainable way of life.

the intervention in Kapotnya district case:

•increasing housing density - from 27200 dwellers to 41300 dwellers.

•Renovating residential buildings in a way that does not imply relocation of dwellers.

•Increasing green area in order to create a better

ecology.

•Creating facilities to support small businesses, for a better social infrastructure and decentralization of the city.

•Economically supporting sustainability, for a better food security, ecology and economy in the district.
